X Class Test Drive...

Mercedes have an entry in the Double Cab Pick Up market and we've had one on test drive for a few days.

Pick ups have come a long way from the first offerings. Traditionally used as agricultural or commercial utility vehicles... Now, numerous manufacturers are competing with more refined models, especially considering there is a wider customer base for this type of vehicle with it being a light commercial, meaning they don't attract the same level of tax as a normal car if used as a company vehicle.

There are currently 3 different trim levels. The entry level PURE model, the mid range PROGRESSIVE model and we've had the use of the top of the range POWER model with a 2.3 187bhp engine and automatic transmission.

Also included on the model we test drove was the optional styling pack and hard tonneau cover. The vehicle looks great and has the big, beefy look that all these Double Cab vehicles seem to require. Sure, everyone will have their own personal opinion, but we feel the X Class has a bit more street cred than its competitors. The interior was definitely more luxurious than we were expecting, with a similar look and feel to the Mercedes SUV range, only with a few less 'bells & whistles'.

The X Class feels great to drive, but as you would expect, it does have that 'work horse' feel.

You soon get used to that though and accept what the vehicle is, and can appreciate the comfortable cabin space which comes with plenty of creature comforts.

Before deciding on opting for a double cab vehicle, you definitely have to consider what you will be using the load space for. The load space is large and there a plenty of different types of cover options. However, not all are waterproof, and not all are as practical as you might think.

The X Class seems to match its rivals regarding technical specification, and despite it being a bit more expensive than most of its rivals, the more luxurious feel would appeal to justify the extra cost.
